Thousands are still loosing their jobs in the States...
they feel that they are lost somehow... helpless...
Worse still are places like Britain where the 'Royal Mail' staff members are going on strikes... holding on thousands of letters and parcels and they want to hit hard especially during these times of Christmas...
Ohh the Christmas Father will have no work Too ;-(

I loved this story when in Mumbai... a guy with a degree in Law or something... having no job, decided retreading shoe soles.... Taboo really got to him from all sides.. but he stuck to an idea.. and it gave fruit...
Everyone loves their running shoes.. and in a country where good shoes are a luxury and a great waste to throw away... this guy now actually employs people to wash the old sole.. trim it to an identical height and paste a new sole on it.. and walla...
Good as new.. and... AND.. at quarter it's retail new price...

Being unemployed is NOT a misfortune... its a chance to be alittle more you... alittle more spiritual...
I used to work in my GrandPa's construction line in Mombasa Kenya...
i used to be incharge of wall tiles selection... mechanic department,,, as a purchasing supervisor for hardware items from wood, nails to twisted iron bars to galvanised roofing sheets to doors to window louvers to glass.. you name it... i know it...
from computer maintenance and Internet surfing cafes in our hotel.. to guest relations and conference management for the British Council...

i was OUT there.. learning and giving my all... but i was NOT living a Happy life... not really.. just doing what needed to be done... since we shifted to India... i sell Aloe Vera products with my dad now ...
My father made the formulas and i design labels and marketing strategies and even Pushed in 'feed a child a meal' with ever sale that we make...
i learn and learn ... Droping my Ego.. and promise myself everyday.. that "i want to learn something Awesome today.." and indeed i Do...
At-least Spiritually i do... i go to bed; having a fulfilled spiritual thirst...
and i am still claiming "i don;t know a thing about the world..."
Coz that;s how i realise my gifts... that;s how You will realise your's...
Don;t take your unemployment as a waste... take it as an opportunity... live up to the standard of Infinity... something that even scientists will agree to... that we only use soo much of our brains... the rest is just stale... unfiring neurons...
Don;t complain about the government and the recession... that is too much for you to fix.. let go... and accept your chance to be in a better place to choose... awaken a-new, revised.. revitalised...
Be spiritual... be giving... DROP the ego Baby.... stop robotic stuff... that is for amateurs... leave those tasks for the beginners... assign work and MOVE aside easily, don;t be a perfactionist All the time... just take alittle bit care in the detail... and accept and adjust....
Move on when it comes to that... but stop staring at doors that are closed or closing... and ride life with a new Zest !!!

why do we as the people.. empower Economics.. ??? give power to useless competition… Employment should be empowering… not based on competition… once your employer sees you “less” fit.. s/he kicks you out… what does that tell you about your place on earth…

Nature would never do that… nature is SOOO giving… when we plant a seed… it turns that single seed to a thousand in a year… right ?
(One seed of wheat… in 3 harvests in a year.. equals a thousand wheat seeds… No bank.. no employer can give you 1000 % interest… nature does that)
Sure sure i understand that it is frustrating for a person to here Advice when there is hunger and humiliation in the house of the unemployed… bills and more bills piling up…
All i am saying is that we need to do what is needed… not what WE want to … you would be surprised how many Community projects can be done like this… (have you heard of the “Time Bank”… it;s where unemployed professionals.. since they are free now… go to a special bank.. and register their service there… and they get called to do local projects.. and the time that they spend there is credited in their account.. and now .. the credit “time” can be exchanged with another professionals credit time… a really interesting phenomina… click the link)
also; imagine how many Karmic accounts can settled by just sitting in one place and forgiving whom you hurt OR who hurt you… this is also a science… by thinking of a person that you hurt… and asking forgiveness from that soul.. we clear that persons account with us… and we are that much less in debt…
It;s all about Karma at the end… seriously… If we are to talk science… then it makes sense that when the good Karma is running out… we should be less struggling and more internalising… we can;t be held responsible for the result - what is happening.. it is happening Because of many many small events…
Less savings, over spending, credit interest rates, neo-colonism, terrorism, and fighting back with violence, death and destruction…
So many things Happened and are happening still for the events to occur Now as they are… we can only be humble and keep our plate of karma clean… and for that.. we need time.. and unemployment gives one that time.. and Sure enough… times will change… and you will have a new plate too.. when the giver starts giving… when everyone considers love and spirituality more…
It will change soon… all i am saying is that we have time to clean our plate… lets utilise that time… and not waste it on negative thoughts and accusations… lets clean our plate while we can… and Should…

it is so easy for those that are not facing this situation to give advice…but i say, if you want to give something…give something that matters…give them a job…give them food to eat…a plot of land to grow food on…
maybe all of us that read this could make a conscious commitment to share our meals with those that do not have any food…go look in our kitchens and fill a box up with stuff we have and carry it to the food bank…seek someone out that needs a helping hand…volunteer at the homeless shelter…cook a meal and carry it to someone that is shut in…someone that is homeless…
anyways, you know that i know that you meant well…but like i said, it is so easy to hand out advice…harder to actually give a hand up…oh we have plenty of prayers don't we??? yeah…let god take care of it…well god is not taking care of it…so…well…maybe i am mad…

do you honestly believe that some strikers and undelivered xmas presents is worse than people losing their livelihood and their ability to feed themselves and their families???

You are absolutely correct. How do you know you were supposed to lose your job? You did. Things are tight. OK. Maybe we tell the kids that even the Elves are having a hard time finding jobs to do because money is tight and Santa can't buy supplies to make lots of toys, so there are less presents under our tree this year. Next year it will probably be different.
I dropped into St Louis about 25-30 yrs ago with $500 and a suitcase of clothes, I started in a motel. A Motel 6, still it was gobbling up my money. I ended up sharing an even cheaper motel with another couple who somehow found me. Why did they find me? Because I needed them. I simply had a belief I would survive. Why did I believe that? I wasn't ready to die, so it had to be so, that somehow I would survive.
Then, having never waitressed in my life, I got a job in a bar that allowed me to take eating money with me when I left in the form of tips. Someone told me about a used car dealer that would sell me a car on credit. LOL He was sure to let me know, if I didn't pay, he'd take it out of my body. I never missed a payment. That was the ugliest car but it ran dependably. He treated me like he would have wanted someone to treat his own daughter under those circumstances.
The car dealer told me about a couple that had a room they'd let me rent. I slept on the couch for weeks because the room was filled with their trash. When the wife wouldn't clean it out, I did, and I saved every little screw because she was afraid I'd throw away something valuable. I slept with the lights on, there were so many cockroaches. Having fun yet? But I'm still here and life is better now.
I found a full time job. Can't find a job? Do something that people will pay you for. Wash dirty windshields quickly at stoplights for donations.
I won't go on and on with my own story. What we believe, is what happens to us. Not that we can predict what that something will be exactly. If you lose your job, its time to do something else. How do I know? You don't have the job anymore. Its really clear to me. Survive ! ! !, however you can, and eventually things will get better because it all runs in cycles.
Good cycles, throw money around and enjoy yourself. Bad cycles, tighten your belt as tight as you can, and keep living as best as you can, until it eases up. The only constant is change. Everything changes. I am absolutely certain that is true. That is what my own life has shown me, over and over again. I can have faith in that truth.

I am not Giving advice to people from my tower of wealth as you explain… i just want to highlight something… in a perfact world… there would be no unemployment… and neither would there be waste…
But both those exist in America right now & somehow.. i am just saying… “hey people… maybe this is the right time to think differently…”
I do my bit by eating a meal a day… may be alittle snack at night… but ever since i was aware of the dire situation in Africa.. of the children dying.. i promised myself to eat less; consciously thinking that the food saved is food earned for someone hungry out there… it's simple logic… RIGHT ?
Mama earth makes say.. 1 trillion tones of food… and i eat less of My share.. then that figure stays that much bigger… simple logic…

What if Karma debt is like that…
When you are in a bad Karmic time.. and you don't have money… or that you are loosing it; what if.. thinking negative and worrying and still wanting a square meal for lunch with meat; and sticking to the 2 storey house; and NOT budging… is a way of printing more money…
Isn't it like a tall tree… dead set in a hurricane.. what happens.. it breaks in half…
Where as.. if you plan.. and strategically move with the situation and cut costs.. use coupons.. and save on rent and reduce on even the simple luxury's… isn't that just like the shrub that survives the hurricane… coz it went with the flow of the wind… bent left and right.. just like the wind…
the idea to strengthen a currency.. is through more exports.. more productivity.. more GPD… right ? at the same time… reducing on financial dependancies and foreign imports…
similarly.. what if the strengthening of the Karmic account of people was being humble, being grateful, being persuasive, passionate.. and affirming connections with ones own God… is it NOT easy NOW that you can do these things.. compared to when you were employed…
Isn't it worth then to step back and say; ok i want to do it differently now… make it stronger at the base… keep my money in savings.. rather then stock or even property… use simple saving technics like bulk buys and cut on branded items that have similar cheaper alternatives…
You can;t disqualify God also.. YES.. you are mad about that.. and you should be… but it is happening now… and all i am saying is that; the shrub survives the Hurricane…
Those who are suffering can't be the reason for His disbelief.. that he is silent to them.. that is almost greedy a thought… If everything is Good.. GOd is Good… and vice versa…
Belief in GOd and Faith should be sooo strict… that come hell i will not loose hope in God… Didn't Moses get His Fruit of his determination.. as the desert that he walked; for some days; his test…
Survival Has always been at the root of Human existance… and we have to have Faith and Hope.. in God…
Ha… each Note of your currency has been imprinted with that.. “In God we Trust” how many really do.. when things get alittle shaky.. ?
And if you ask me… it's the Diamonds that get polished first… no one polishes pebbles… what if God is a jeweler.. and he likes to grind some dust off the diamonds… can't he do that … ?

Move in with your parents if you have to… do what needs to be done… and realise that spark of happiness in every situation.. and know that your faith and your God are with you always… the question then remains… How deep is your love for Him… :-) for what you give is what you get… what you belive in HIm is what you receive to get from Him…
that is my little message… To be humble and almost ascetic to even the simple pleasures of life… until the time of the storm has passed…

I am glad to here of your survival story; it really makes no sense at times… life… but all i can say is that the ones that do survive are the ones that have the deepest of tales to share…
My Great grand father actually came to Kenya on a boat from India…
It was drought here in India then, and i remember tales of Him starting his business on a bicycle and a cement bag on the back every morning…
Survival instincts.. mixed with a pinch of rules and regulations that he followed.. (ethics and religious norms) and walla.. the cake was formed…
But still i love being in the shoes of the majority… the lower class… there is something about sitting in a tattered home.. and listening to a conversation about daily life.. then siting in a mansion… far above the ground…
LIfe is duality i think.. and those who have chosen minimalism i think have made it through; and will make it through with great ease and happiness….

The 'shut in' are the elderly who have no one to care for them…I'm not talking about helping those that can obviously help themselves…I am talking about to continue to care for those that cannot…and my friend…America is not the only one with a fucked up system…look at India…right now where you live a system of caste…si??? I am better than you…I know, I have a very dear friend in India, two of them in fact, and so I know of the poverty on the streets there…
We should 'help our self and our own' before we go pointing the finger somewhere else, although I do understand what you are saying, and I use to be one of those cheering for things to fall apart so that they could be re-built…but that would leave so many devasted…and would not be good for America or the world as a whole…
You should get with TED…and see what you both can come up with between yourselves…you have big heart…he has big mind…gol*

Janak, just a little note as I woke this morning with a thought about your blog, can you imagine?!
I've had periods when I've worked for money [“employed”] and periods when I've worked but not received money [because the company wasn't making any] and of course as wife and mom and so on, am always working. Have been unemployed and employed; and always underpaid for my educational background.
BUT the point of all this silly litany is this - I've always told myself - when I'm “not working” I don't have enough money so I don't do some of the things I enjoy and would like to do [and remember, as a mom, it's not about ME but things for the kids and family and so on]; when I am working I have more money but then I have no time. SO… this is completely personal of course, but that is why your blog resonated with me. When I am not working now, I focus on the things I can do; I don't focus on what I am not, or can't. And when I am earning money, I remember how I felt when I was not working….it's all the same; the glass is always half-full and half-empty. It all depends on how we look at it.
And yes..we don't stop giving to others, and doing for others, whether employed or unemployed. That flow shouldn't stop, though it may be more in action or more in money.

I deleted my previous comment because as i see it… it was too spiritual.. :-) not helping as star is yelling at the top of her lungs… to the present situation… almost like escapism with divinity…
Yes… as i was awaking today.. and Going to sleep last night too… i couldn't stop wondering Why i felt guilt…
I think i am TOO spiritual.. in that i believe that everything that is happening to us as the individual is because of our actions… past and present combined… that is plain and rude to some readers… and i like to say sorry…
I will speak of this great discourse that i recently watched… i was watching this program about spirituality and why there is pain… and it gave a simple message… We take both sides… the world's side and God's side…
we have to take only One side… just like a devoted couple enjoy loving each other… and can't think of another… and when they want something… they come to each other and consult each other….
Similarly… we as the people have lost that intimate a connection with God… People have stopped praying before meals.. and thank God for keeping them alive for the day…
People are now… (everywhere) looking for the reason why they are suffering and looking for a person to blame… the one with the red hands to all that is going wrong…
People basically need to return to God pronto… and i mean return to Him Only… not some stimulus package or some job interview … i still read a discourse from the scriptures before i go to sleep… and i still remember God the first thing in the morning… That is why i say this… “Gandhi said; don't preach what you yourself don't practice…”
i read somewhere that We the people.. all over the world are like branches of a divine tree… pulling and cutting away part of the tree affects the whole divine tree… and that is why i deleted my previous comment… it was too suggestive of the wrong of some of the things i saw in America.. and overlooked the ones that are in my country too… Africa and India…
Poverty being one of them… so how do we combat it then… ?
I believe that the true kind of love… ie compassion will be the key to all that is required to solve poverty…
Ha.. once… i used to give beggars about 10 rupees on the streets… they would actually buy cigarettes with that money… and so.. now i give them biscuits… YES you got it… in my car.. i have about 5 packs of digestive biscuits that i keep.. .if a beggar comes along.. they get a pack…

but i know i have solved the problem of cigarettes smokers with my charity…
Sure we need to do more Star… but it starts when everyone does their bit.. when everyone starts to see God in each other… and Stops the greed… Stops the greed… the trunk is the same of the divine tree… and we should stop pointing fingers as you say star… Quite right.. !!!

I have been busy with family matters, but I would like to comment on one thing…
you say it starts when everyone does their bit…well, that is not likely to happen b/c you and everyone else has their own ideas as to what their bit is…each of us have our own set of conditioned beliefs that dictate what is right or wrong…
and realistically, we cannot get away from pointing fingers…if someone breaks into your home with the intent to do you bodily harm, would you not want them to be arrested???
my reasons for commenting on this thread were to point out how illogical it is for us ignore the 'deep shit' most of humanity is in right now…we cannot wish it away or pray it away…we have to roll up our sleeves and come up with new and fresh solutions…the old ones have failed us for centuries, and continue to do so…we need a new vision, new ways of being in our world…we need to address the real problems that we face and come up with ways to solve them…all this becoming ONE with GOD or BUDDHA or WHAT-THE-FUCK-EVER…is not working…not solving anything, except to continue to blind us from reality…
we have to wake up to being human…wake up and claim our own humanity…no one is going to save us except our selves…and most of us are way to busy destroying ourselves and the earth we live on without a second thought…and even if we are not actively participating in the destruction, we are looking the other way basking in fantasy land…and are just as accountable…

I travel to Mombasa soon and meet up with orphaned kids at the Anada Marga Institute… and donate to them once again… possible sing with them and my sitar… (i sure will post a video)
I turn away from arranged marriages for the sake of “No more Children” … (grand parents and grand kids… whats up with that !!!! ??? :-)
i Teach people to be vegetarian; for a pound of meat takes 16 pounds of grains… not to mention cruelty that can be avoided by going veg…

I don't know what now…I just know that all the old ways have not, do not work…
The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again expecting different results…
I tend to think that Mother Earth has had enough and is fighting back in her own way…but that doesn't mean that I will stop shouting it from the depths of my being…and doing what I can do…and there really is a lot that can be done from the consumer end…
