OK after much pondering; I decided to make readers realise that the well-being in this world; with our body, and indeed our spiritual well-being also rests on the type of food we eat...
There are so many people talking about how 'meat is bad' and how even the 'strength of elephants is just from being vegetarian '.... i'm here with a new approach... one that is practical and really fruitful... the romantic approach :-)
So lets start the cooking romance ( ; 'coomance' ; ) and let's see what you've been missing out on... I mentioned to one of my friends... ' when we limit ourselves, that's when we can truly evolve ' let me show you what limiting your diet to vegetarianism means...
OK first of all; I live in the tropics where we literally can grow what we want to eat... so I do my own experiments also on cooking... this recipe is indeed one of my favorite... but i wonder if you can experience it; the bananas used here are the African Rhinohorn (see the links below - going bananas) but you can use any Unripe bananas here... just skip the 10 min steaming part if you use another banana type.
This banana type is usually cooked like a potato...i threw in a handful of peas,,, OK 2 handful's... OK fine 4 handful's of peas.... what ? i love peas... ; )
Serving for 5 people (who are very hungry ; )
1) 5 bananas
2) 3 tomatoes
3) 1 green chili pepper (hotter ? make it 2 then ; ) gosh you like it hot... OK 3 then !!!
4) 4 handful of green peas
Spices:
1. Salt
2. Turmeric powder
3. Fresh leaves of coriander
4. Black Mustard seeds
- Wash 5 African Rhinohorn bananas; cut them into 4 equal parts and steam them for 10 min. with the skin. The bananas have to be just alittle ripe... so that the dish is sweet... yet not too ripe; otherwise the pieces will turn into a paste while mixing.
- Remove the skin after it has cooled alittle.
- Cut the pieces now into smaller pieces like you see in the pic
- Take the 3 tomatoes and cut them into quarters to see if they are not bad inside - then put them in the grinder (i always insist on this,,, we have to, have to, check if there is nothing gone bad in the middle somewhere; so always cut the tomatoes and check inside before popping them into the grinder)
- Dice the green chili peppers and now pop the mustard seeds in a little hot oil (don't forget to cover the container... you should quickly put the diced chili's in it once the popping stops and let the chili's cook in the hot oil for a few seconds...
- Switch of the heat... put the semi-cooked banana pieces in a cooking container... preferably a pressure cooker, put the peas in, put the oil with the mustard seeds and the chili's in, put the tomato paste in (this serving is sorta dry... see pic... so only add water if you want to make it more liquidish)
- Put about 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Put about 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- Mix it all and let it cook until the peas are 'Squashible' ; ) or after the pressure cooker has whistled 3 times... then let it cool.
- Put some chopped coriander leaves in the stew and mix...
- You can now have a serving just by itself... or with a rolled bread like in the pic. (if you are wondering... yes ... yes ... i can roll a bread like that - i am good baby ; ) at cooking... ;-D
OK the glass you see in the pic is of 'diluted yogurt' just 3 table spoons of yogurt, mixed with water and served cold... we Indians must; must have that with every meal... it's like water or juice for us when we have lunch; and the benefits are tremendous (of yogurt) - that is why there is a saying... Gujarati's never have stomach problems... coz we have yogurt in this form everyday....
Please follow normal kitchen rules while preparing this... if you are new at cooking, get yourself a person holding a fire extinguisher; always watching your every move...
Or just call your mum and ask her to help you will ya...
;-D
Lots of luck to you on preparing this serving...
